From the Jackson County Sheriff's Office

On Tuesday, February 11, 2016 at approximately 6:45 A.M., the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office 911 Dispatch received a call from an individual on Braves Boulevard in Greenwood, Florida. The caller advised that a male subject was lying in the middle of Braves Boulevard, which is inside the Greenwood Trailer Park and appeared to be unresponsive.

The 911 Dispatch center had both Jackson County Fire & Rescue along with Jackson County Sheriff’s Office personnel respond to the area. Upon the arrival of the emergency units, they discovered the body of Michael Sheffield with traumatic injuries that proved to be fatal.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office along with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 14th Circuit State Attorney’s Office and the 14th Circuit Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an investigation into the suspicious death of Sheffield, which is still ongoing at this time. An autopsy is pending to determine the exact cause of death.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the wife of Michael Sheffield, Heather Sheffield, had violated her pretrial release from an unrelated charge and therefore subsequently arrested.
