From Jackson County Sheriff’s Department
On Saturday July 09th 2016, The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Flynt Dr., In reference to a missing juvenile complaint. While enroute to the call, Deputies received updated information indicating that the juvenile had been located in the water on Merritts Mill Pond and was unresponsive. An adult had retrieved the juvenile from the water and CPR was in progress on the dock at the residence. Deputies initiated an emergency response and dispatch notified Jackson County Fire and Rescue to be enroute as well. A Deputy arrived first on scene and located the victim. The Deputy utilized his department issued A.E.D equipment on the juvenile victim and rendered aid until the arrival of EMS. Upon their arrival, the Deputy assisted EMS in loading the victim and patient care was turned over to the EMS personnel. EMS continued to provide emergency care to the victim attempting to stabilize before transport. After several minutes with no response, EMS initiated transport to Jackson Hospital. While enroute to the Hospital, EMS was able to obtain minimal vital signs from the victim and made the decision to have a Landing Zone set up for Air Heart transport to Bay Medical center.
At approximately 6:40 pm Saturday afternoon the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the juvenile victim had passed away at the Medical Center. At the time of this Press Release the incident appears to have been accidental in nature and no charges are pending at this time, however the investigation is ongoing. No further information or the identity of the victim shall be released until the results from the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigation has been completed.
