On September 2nd, 2016 at approximately 11:15am, officers with the Marianna Police Department responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Highway 73 North. Upon officers arrival there was complete road blockage in both lanes of Lafayette Street and traffic had to be diverted around the crash.
During the investigation of the crash it was determined that a 2013 Nissan passenger vehicle, driven by Cecily Nelson of Marianna, FL was traveling west on Lafayette Street. A 2001 Chevrolet pickup, driven by Homer Myrick of Graceville, FL was traveling south on Highway 73 North. The Chevrolet pulled into the path of the Nissan and the Nissan struck the Chevrolet in the driver’s side. This caused the Chevrolet to rotate in a counter clockwise direction and then came to a stop in the east bound lane of Lafayette Street.
Myrick was charged in the crash with failure to yield right of way and no proof of insurance. The crash remains under investigation by the Marianna Police Department.
